Sorion Electronics, who supplies electronic engineering services to the automotive, aerospace and manufacturing industries, is celebrating its 25th year of trading on the back of their most profitable year of trading.

Sorion Electronics was founded by Managing Director Phil Yates in 1990 and in 2003 Phil joined forces with Steve Hayes and Nick Hartt who both became Owner Directors.

Located in the heart of Birmingham and employing 35 people with a turnover of £3M, Sorion Electronics is on track to increase to 50 staff over the next five years but has equally ambitious plans in the short-term as Commercial Director Steve Hays explains: “Since 2011, after coming through the recession, we have grown year on year in terms of turnover, employees, production space and profitability. And now with vehicle production in the UK on track to reach an all-time high and inline with the general upturn in manufacturing, we are experiencing continued growth in sales and so we are looking to build upon and exceed 2014, which was our best year to date.”

2015 has seen the company win orders from new customers whilst seeing an increase in ongoing work from long-term customers such as Denso, Lear and Magna.

Sorion Electronics firmly believes that a fundamental element of their success over the past 25 years is due to their commitment of investing company profits back into the business which they also believe will ensure the company’s longevity.

Nick Hartt, Systems Director commented: “We have recently increased our production capacity, improved upon our production flow and invested further in new production and stock control areas, and looking to the future, we will carry on investing in the company so we can continually improve upon quality, lead times and yield greater economies of scale for the direct benefit of our customers.”

Earlier in 2015 Sorion Electronics announced their investment in a 3D Printer that has enabled them to produce prototype and bespoke finished parts in-house whilst reducing the lead-time from weeks to within 24 hours for some parts. A proportion of the investment was funded by the European Regional Development Fund under its Business Innovation Programme, which is managed by Birmingham City Council.

To mark the company’s 25th anniversary, Sorion Electronics are hosting an Open Day at their offices on Thursday September 10th which will see Sir Albert Bore, elected Councillor for Birmingham Ladywood and Leader of the Labour Group of Birmingham City Council, be in attendance. Phil Yates said: “We wanted to mark this landmark anniversary and at the same time involve and say thank you to all of our customers, employees, suppliers and local business associates who have been integral in our past success and will hopefully play an important part in our future success. We are hoping to have around 100 people attend throughout the day which is running between 12pm and 8pm.”
